The municipality of Alba Iulia will host in 2023 two European Championships: the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship and the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship. The European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship will take place between August 4-8, 2023, and the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship will take place between August 8-13, 2023. Thus, the archers will be able to participate in Alba Iulia at two European competitions organized in a historical place.
European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship
At the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship, the archers will compete on August 5 and 6 on three archery fields – a field with technical and historical targets, a field with panels with different target face types and a field with 3D animal silhouette targets. Archers who achieve the performance criteria according to the Historical-3Dimensional-Hunting International Archery Association (HDH-IAA) regulations, will be qualified for the semi-final which will take place on August 7, 2023. After the semi-final, the top six archers from each bow division and age category, will be qualified for the final of the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship. The final will take place on August 8, 2023. The fields of the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship will be located in one of the largest Vauban-type fortresses in Central Europe, situated in the Municipality of Alba Iulia in Romania. Also, on August 8, 2023, the national teams of the participating countries, will face each other.
HDH-IAA 3D European Championship
The archers who will participate at the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship will test their own power of concentration and physical endurance. On August 8-11, 2023, archers will compete on three archery fields. They will shoot at 28 3D animal silhouettes on each field. Every day the archers will shoot on one of three fields: one field will be located in the Alba Iulia Citadel, and the other two fields, with a high degree of difficulty, will be located in the Mamut forest, near Alba Iulia. On August 12, the national teams will face each other and also, on the same day, will take place the final of the national teams. On the last day of the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship, August 13, 2023, will be organized the finals for each bow division and age category and will be awarded the European HDH-IAA 3D champion titles.
Checking the fields
On March 12-13, 2023, the organizers and the 3D technical director of the event, Szedlar Janos, visited the fields and marked the places of the targets. They checked the safety of shooting area, analyzed the possible risks and made proposals in order to avoid and eliminate the risks. Also, on the evening of March 12, 2023, the technical director of the historical archery event, Lovasz Tamas, participated online at the technical meeting.
The slogan of the European HDH-IAA championships from Alba Iulia will be „Make history in a historical fortress in the heart of Romania!”
