🏹 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Champions Behind the Scenes! 🏹
The European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship and the European HDH-IAA 3D Archery Championship, held from August 4th to 13th, 2023, have come to a successful close. This success was made possible by over 50 incredible volunteers who displayed near-superhuman effort across nine intense days of competition. Their commitment was evident, easily identified by the vibrant red shirts they wore, and always paired with a contagious smile, despite the rigorous work.
We set up 15 competition fields, an enormous undertaking that our volunteers bravely shouldered. Special gratitude goes to Cătălin Partene & Kalmár József for their outstanding coordination of the 3D fields, Lovasz Tamás for leading the teams behind the historical championship fields, Ladanyi Laura and Kis-Nagy Magdalena for impeccably running the office, and a heartfelt salute to Kis-Nagy Zoltán and Ladanyi Árpád – without whose visionary initiative, bringing these European championships to Alba Iulia would remain a dream.

Today marked the day of team confrontations. In the morning, the qualification competitions took place, setting the stage for an exciting afternoon showdown. Starting at 3 PM, within the trenches of Alba Carolina Fortress at Gate 3, the top six teams battled for the gold medal. The competition was fierce, and the archers displayed remarkable skill and determination. Now, the results are in, showcasing the finest examples of teamwork and precision in archery. The European HDH-IAA 3D Archery Championship has concluded three thrilling days of competition. Archers from across the continent faced 28 targets across three fields, firing a single arrow at each, a test of sheer concentration and skill.
Even a fleeting moment of inattention or relaxation was penalized, making the challenge all the more intense. But now, the results of the three-day battle are in, leading to a well-earned celebration for the successful archers. See the results here.

Venue: The team competition will take place tomorrow at the field on Mamut Hill.
Schedule:
- Training Ground: Opens at 7:00 AM.
- Technical Meeting: Scheduled for 8:30 AM, after which groups will proceed to the competition field.
- First Shot: The competition will officially commence at 9:15 AM.

The Daco-Roman wars, fought between AD 101 and AD 106, marked a turning point in European history. Tomorrow, we kick off the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship!
Find your group, the field on which you will begin the European HDH-IAA 3D Championship, and the time you enter the competition here. Fly start will be applied.
The practice field will be open from 7:30 AM. The practice field on Mamut Hill is open from 7,30 AM and from 5 PM to 6 PM. The first groups will begin the competition at 8:30 AM. You can navigate to the competition fields by accessing the following links: T3, T4, and T5. Please note that smoking is strictly prohibited on the forest fields. Bring appropriate equipment for the rugged terrain (we recommend hiking boots). At check-in, you will receive a water bottle. Please keep the bottle as there are water refill points along the course. Parking is free within the perimeter of the Panoramic Bar&Grill Restaurant. We offer the option to park on the bike path coordinated by STAFF.

On Day 2: 6th August (Sunday) 2023, we invite you to step back in time and participate in a special event that will test your skills and ignite your competitive spirit!
🏆 The Champion of Alba Iulia Citadel – Bastion shot Time: 16:30 – 19:30
Rules:
- A team can have a maximum of 5 members. Gather your fellowship and aim for glory!
- Each team starts with 15 arrows. Make them count!
- A team can shoot in the next round with as many arrows as the number of arrows they hit the target in the previous round. Hit and move forward! Miss and… well, let’s not think about that! 😉
Awwards:
- First Place: medals and a straw panel Ø 100 cm for each archer on the team. 🥇🎯
- Second Place: medals and a straw panel Ø 80 cm for each archer on the team. 🥈🎯
- Third Place: medals and a target face made of polyfoam (soldier silhouette) for each archer on the team. 🥉🎯

- Where? In the morning on the competition grounds T2 field and T3 field, in the afternoon (after the lunch) beetwen 14,00-16,00 o’clock in the registration area, T1 field, where the competition will take place.

Our brave archers faced not one, but two of the three qualifying ranges. The scorching heat was more than a metaphor; it was a real challenge. But fear not, our archers triumphed, their spirit unbroken, and their good humor unscathed. 😅💪

Day 0 of the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship has been nothing short of a historical spectacle, and here’s a recap that’s as sharp as our archers’ arrows! #AlbaIuliaArchery2023
First, the suspense! 🧐 Arrows were aligned, bows were bent, and attire was attuned, all rigorously verified and stamped „ready to fire”! The competition grounds? Scanned by judges and found to be as compliant as a well-strung bow with all safety measures. 🏹✅
But the real show began on the streets of Alba Iulia! 🚶♂️🚶♀️ Archers paraded proudly, accompanied by the tunes of the Transylvanian Pipers and escorted by the Guard of Apulum. Talk about making an entrance! 🎶
Next, the fireworks! 🎇 Mayor Gabriel Pleșa officially opened the Championships in the magnificent Citadel Square, setting the stage for a remarkable show of historical battles by the Garda Apulum. Dacians and Romans, clashing swords, and thrilling the crowd! ⚔️
But wait, there was more! 👀 The Skepsis Group took us back to the medieval days of Balgrad (Alba Iulia’s Slavic name) with their exciting program, „The Medieval Days of Balgrad”.🏰
And for the cherry on top, LED walls displaying snippets of historical archery competitions and sponsor spotlights. It’s like YouTube, but bigger, brighter, and without those pesky ads! 📺

Important Information and Guidelines for Participants: European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship, Alba Iulia, August 2023
Dear Archers,
- Should any obstacle arise that prevents your arrival for the competition, please inform us at your earliest convenience.
- On-site registration for the European HDH-IAA Historical Archery Championship is located at this location. Join us on August 4th, 2023, between 11 AM – 5 PM for registration and equipment verification. Note: Registration is only on August 4th, 2023.
- The official opening and parade of historical archers will be held on August 4th, 2023. The gathering for the parade will be at this location. Please assemble by 6:00 PM; the parade commences at 6:20 PM. The route to the stage takes approximately 10 minutes. Dress in historical attire in accordance with the HDH-IAA historical archery regulations.
- For airport transfers, please notify us by 24:00 on August 2nd, 2023. The transfer is at a charge. Provide details including airport, flight number, landing and departure times, and the number of people requiring transfer.
- Those who have already arranged for airport transfers, or who will do so by August 2nd, 2023, will receive a transfer offer on August 3rd, 2023.
- The award ceremony and banquet will be held on August 8th, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Vila Elisabeta.
- Archers enjoy complimentary banquet access. Companion tickets are available for 15 euros at the registration desk.
- Archers and their companions who have paid for the banquet receive free entry to the Olympic Pool, the National Unification Museum, and the Dendrological Park.

- Free parking for archers is available from August 3rd at this location.
