In 2023, Alba Iulia will host two European championships: the HDH-IAA European Historical Championship and the HDH-IAA European 3D Championship. The Historical Championship will be taking place between August 4th and the 8th, and the 3D Championship will follow immediately after, between August 9th and the 13th. In this way, all archery enthusiasts will be able to take part in two European competitions.
The first common session between organizers and representatives of the Historical-3Dimensional-Hunting International Archery Association (HDH-IAA) took place in Alba Iulia on October 6th, 2022. The organizers were represented by: Mr. Radu Urcan – director of the „Unirea” Municipal Sports Club in Alba Iulia, Mr. Kis-Nagy Zoltan – president of the Romanian Historical Archery Federation (FRAI)(the federation is pending institution) and president of „Phoenix Archery” Sports Club (HDH-IAA affiliate), Mr. Cătălin Partene – president of „Rangers of the North” Sports Club, Mr. Ladanyi Arpad Csaba – sports instructor with the „Sagittarii” archery division of „Unirea” Municipal Sports Club in Alba Iulia, and, on behalf of HDH-IAA, Mr. Szedlar Janos – 3D technical director, and Mr. Lovasz Tamas – historical archery technical director.
This meeting was set to analyze the requirements for organizing the two European championships in the best conditions and at a high standard. During the ten days of the two championships, between 500 and 600 archers are expected in Alba Iulia, which will compel a considerable logistics effort in order to ensure an impeccable execution for both events.
The team visited the two venues organizers have suggested for the competitions: the Alba Carolina fortress and the forest on Mamut Hill, around the Panoramic Bar & Grill restaurant.
The international forum representatives were very impressed with the beauty of Alba Iulia’s fortress, both appreciating that it is an extraordinary venue, one of the most beautiful in Europe, for hosting a European and even a world championship. The HDH-IAA European championships in Alba Iulia will be organized under the slogan „Make history in a historical fortress in the heart of Romania!”
